Eltayeb Dawalbeit

Sudan

Eltayeb Dawalbeit was born in 1968 in Kosti, Sudan.
He studied from 1989 to 1995 at the University of Sudan’s College of Fine & Applied Arts in Khartoum, though his studies were interrupted when he was dismissed for political activities and spent a year in exile in Libya. After his return to Sudan in 1994, he completed his education.

His earlier works still shows the trademarks of the 'Khartoum School', however, he found in his recent work his very own personal expression: the human face, fractured faces, scratched out from broken wood boards and doors and cupboard wings, symbolises a broken core of human mind and spirit.

Eltayeb has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions in Canada and throughout Europe, including Italy, Monaco and the United Kingdom, as well as within the East African Region. Since 1997, he has been living in Nairobi, where he works as a freelance artist and a textile designer.
