Art Works

Justus Kyalo - Kenya

Justus Kyalo was born in 1972 in Nairobi. He trained as a book illustrator and designer at the Creative Arts Centre in Nairobi.
He found his way to visual art through photography, dance and fashion design. His initial figurative style of painting has over the years changed into unique abstract artworks.
Kyalo is recognised as one of East Africa’s most renowned abstract painters.

His latest abstract art works explore new tools and media, instead of paint and canvas, acid and water on galvanized iron sheets. An acid blend poured and brushed onto shiny metal sheets, controlled and guided, bites into the metal creating multi-layered, light and dark rusted abstract patterns .

He has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Africa, the US and Europe, including the distinguished World Bank’s “Africa Now” exhibition, held in Washington DC in 2009. The World Bank acquired five of his abstract works that year.
Justus Kyalo lives and works as a freelance artist in Kitengela, Nairobi.
