Resurrection – Facial Fragments

Eltayeb Dawelbeit - Sudan

Eltayeb Dawalbeit was born in 1968 in Kosti, Sudan.
He studied at the College of Fine & Applied Arts of the University of Sudan in Khartoum from 1989 to 1995, but his studies were interrupted when he was dismissed for political activities and spent one year in exile in Libya. After his return to Sudan in 1994, he completed his art education.
Eltayeb has been living in Nairobi since 1997, where he works as a freelance artist and a textile designer.

The human face and head in numerous variations characterise the subject of his artworks in recent years. In particular in this exhibition, fractured faces, scratched out from broken wood boards and doors and cupboard wings, symbolise a broken core of human mind and spirit.

Eltayeb has participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions in Europe and Canada, including a solo show at the TAD Gallery in Rome in 2003 and a group show at the Ensign Gallery in London in 2004. He has participated in prestigious art fairs like the Toronto Art Fair 2006 and the Monaco Art Fair 2010.

He participated in the Modern and Contemporary East African Art Auction in Nairobi in 2013 and 2014, and he completed a large commission for the PWC Towers in Nairobi in 2013.
